Selama ini kita telah dimomokkan dengan keburukan dan kemudharatan kesihatan yang disebabkan oleh minyak kelapa oleh orang-orang barat, yang kononnya ini berdasarkan kepada hasil kajian ahli pemakanan mereka, walaupun kita semua tahu bahawa minyak kelapa ini telah digunakan oleh nenek moyang kita sejak berkurun-kurun dulu, tanpa sebarang kemudharatan. Propanganda ini lama-kelamaan termakan juga, sehingga kita lebih memandang tinggi dan mengutamakan minyak masak yang dihasilkan oleh negara barat, seperti minyaksunflower, minyak kacang soya, minyak canola, minyak jagung dsb. sebagai lebih berkhasiat daripada minyak kelapa (produk negara tropika). Minyak kelapa dikatakan menjadi penyebab kepada kandungan kolesterol yang tinggi, seterusnya menyebabkan penyakit darah tinggi dan strok.
Sebaliknya, kajian terkini orang barat juga telah mengenalpasti bahawa minyak kelapa sangat berkhasiat dari segi kesihatan kerana ia mengandungi bahan yang boleh mengubati/merawat penyakit Alzheimer dan Parkinson. Bahan yang banyak terdapat dalam minyak kelapa ialah medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) and ketone bodies yang dikatakan berupaya merawat Alzheimer dan penyakit saraf yang lain.
Selain itu, minyak kelapa juga didapati dapat mengawal kolesterol, menghindari atherosklerosis dan penyakit kardiovaskular, meningkatkan metabolisme badan, mengurangkan selera makan dan menguatkan sistem imun/pertahanan badan.
